Short Course: Making Your Own (Bokashi) Compost Activator
Bokashi is a composting method of fermentation that you can easily do at home with just a few simple steps that involve sealing kitchen scraps
Cape Prosperity is a community prosperity platform that operates at the intersection between people, ecology and the economy. It is predominantly an alliance (compact) between people and communities. The primary objective is community upliftment through capacity building actions. For example: Education and practical experience is integrated into volunteer based community development projects. Skills learnt can be used to get a job or start a business.
Our mission is to assist communities in the Cape region to achieve their goals, and thereby prosper, by promoting a broad based culture of self determination.
“Do not act as if you had ten thousand years to throw away. Death stands at your elbow. Be good for something while you live, and it is in your power.” – Marcus Aurelius

“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy … when you volunteer you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in”
The majority of the ecosystems in the Cape region are unique and many of them are degraded. Addressing the extensive ecosystem degradation through conventual conservation practices will not succeed. However, by integrating many small interventions so that we can dynamically enhance the regenerative capacity of nature, we can cost-effectively rehabilitate these severely degraded landscapes.
Ecosystem restoration and regenerative development together offer a practical pathway to redesign the human impact on Earth. This is the path towards becoming healers of the Earth and in the process heal ourselves and our relationships with each other and the community of life. We are all called to join together and to overcome the silos between disciplines, sectors and ideologies in an unprecedented collaborative effort to restore ecosystems everywhere and to heal the Earth — Daniel Christian Wahl
We can end load-shedding in the Cape and eventually become independent of Eskom’s collapsing power supply. To do so, we have to urgently and incrementally build an alternative energy system. This will unfortunately take more time than we have, especially if we follow business-as-usual policies. The Cape is blessed with high insolation — Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will thus most likely dominate the ‘new’ energy mix. Conventional petroleum energy sources will however need to be included for peaking power plants. Notably, in the not so distant future, the Cape will have to rely more on hydrocarbons obtained from biomass for peaking power plants and it will need much more power from pumped storage hydropower (PSH) plants.
To be successful, capacity building is a multi-faceted intervention that requires a long-term strategy. Education and skills development are a core intervention of the Cape Capacity Building Initiative.
One of the primary objectives of Cape prosperity is skills development. Volunteers have the opportunity to learn a wide range of new skills while they are volunteering. Volunteers can use their volunteerism (work experience) and new skills to enhance their CV — and get a job!
Open access non-certificate courses are offered by individuals and organisations. Courses come in many forms — some are online and others are in person; and some are a combination of both. Subjects vary from building & farming to creative writing & sewing and more.
A DIY culture and possessing many life skills will become more important as we transition to a localised economic system.
The Regenerative Systems Design Course — RSD Course — offers 48 certificate qualifications plus an opportunity to study towards a masters degree.
Many other reduced price certificate courses will be offered by training organisations that wish to help our volunteers to get better qualified. Access to these courses is limited to volunteers that have reached a certain level of volunteer (#) tokens.
